Why is Sonam Kapoor playing so safe at Cannes 2018?

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja did manage to make heads turn at the red carpet of 71st Cannes International Film Festival when she opted for a rather traditional look from Ralph and Russo. The white lehenga choli with intricate floral embroidery looked elegant but my only concern is, if it was meant for red carpet. The look was great but not apt for a red carpet outing I feel. Guess the actress wanted an attire that could justify her wedding mehendi. Hence opting for elaborate gowns wasn’t an option really. Yet I believe Mrs Ahuja could have done far better and expected her to stun me with her fashion pick in her next appearance. Alas! It was equally blah and boring.

The Delpozo floral attire that she picked for an auction dinner for NGO Positive Planet, again, wasn’t an attire to wear for a ‘dinner.’ The look was suitable for a lunch meeting or probably for a brunch with your friends. The colour palette isn’t something you pick for an evening. The sea green colour shoulder especially. It’s more cool and a day colour which definitely didn’t go with an evening attire. But I bet the Neerja actress had her valid reasons to opt for such a casual look and play it so safe. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Sonam paired her attire with de Grisogono jewellery, Jimmy Choo clutch and Charlotte Olympia sandals. I wonder if she’s the same Sonam who made some rather eye popping style statements on French Riviera last year. The golden Elie Saab ensemble is still so fresh in my minds that I expected her to make similar style statements this year. Unfortunately it has been a snooze fest till now. Here’s hoping she gets back in the race for her final appearance tonight.
