Majid Majidi is a credible name in the business of cinema. He has over the years contributed immensely to the art of filmmaking. Majidi’s was the first Iranian film to make it to the prestigious Academy Awards.
The Iranian filmmaker is all set to make his Bollywood debut with ‘Beyond The Clouds’, starring Ishaan Khatter (Shahid Kapoor’s brother) and Malayalam actress Malavika Mohanan, who is also the daughter of cinematographer KU Mohanan (Jab Harry Met Sejal, Raees, and Talaash). In a conversation with a daily, Majidi spoke about what ‘Beyond The Clouds’ has to offer.
When questioned how he managed to make a film in a language that he doesn’t speak, Majid said that he has been planning to make a film here in India. He was interested in the ambience, culture, and atmosphere. He even compared India’s culture to Iran stating that they are culturally similar. He added that he spent time in Mumbai to get a deep understanding of the vocations here. And what he learnt has inspired him to make a film.Emphasizing on the challenging part he said that he decided to make the film in Indian language and not in English. Especially, because of the characters and the cultural aspect, the film had to be a local movie. Language is not a barrier. When you mention emotion, it is very important in the film; one should transport that emotion to the audience.
Speaking about his fondness of Hindi cinema, he professed that he’s a big fan of Satyajit Ray’s cinema.
‘Beyond The Clouds’ is slated to release on 20 April 2018.
