Hichki has turned out to be one of the most surprising hits of the year

Hichki surpasses the lifetime business of Mardaani in just 11 days at the box office

Rani Mukerji’s Hichki has turned out to be one of the most surprising hits of the year. Despite having a niche appeal and facing stiff competition from Raid and Baaghi 2, the film remained rock-steady at the box office. In 11-days, the school drama raked in Rs 35.60 crore and surpassed the lifetime business of Rani Mukerji’s last film Mardaani which had collected Rs 34.82 crore at the box office. Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting Hichki to earn around Rs 45 crore in its theatrical run.

The film is currently sixth highest grosser of the year after Padmaavat, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Raid, Pad Man and Baaghi 2. Ecstatic over the response, Rani said: “All my life, I have tried to entertain, tried to spread love and happiness to my fans and audiences through my films. Their happiness made me happy, motivated me. Yesterday, I felt the same emotions that I had faced when my first film released. “I was nervous. I was jittery. My first love is acting. Nothing gives me as much joy than being on the set of my film. I chose marriage when I wanted to.”

About the compliments she has been getting for her role, Rani said: “Everything has been special for me. All the teachers are taking different grades of students now, you know, one-day fourth grade, one-day fifth grade, one-day sixth grade, and getting to know all the students, I mean for me there is nothing better than that. And the fact that teachers have understood, what the movie stands for and it inspired them and they themselves are taking the students to watch the film… I think that is the biggest victory for us. The film is a tribute to teachers and they have accepted the film whole heartily, I don’t think there could be a bigger compliment than that.”
